Cougs Snap Losing Streak

Colorado Christian put an end to their four game losing streak as they defeated Chadron State College 90-81 on Friday night in Chadron, NE.

The Cougars started out a little rough as they missed their first three shots. Chadron on the other hand dominated the first four minutes going on a 0-10 run, until CCU's Brett Brady took the ball inside making a layup and getting the Cougars on the scoreboard.

Stefan Hackethal started out hot for Christian, as he made two threes and closed the gap between the Cougars and the Eagles. After some back and forth scoring, the Cougs were still down 16-26 with 7:40 left in the first half. CCU continued to have a hard time shooting, only making 36.4% (8-22) from the field. With only two minutes left in the first half Christian was able to minimize the gap making it 27-30 with a three pointer by Brett Brady. Although Colorado Christian made improvements late in the first half, they went into the locker room down 29-33.

Leaders for the first half were Jacob Taylor with six rebounds, Dimitri Saliba with three assists, and Brett Brady with seven points. Colo. Christian shot 36.4% making 12 of their 33 field goal attempts. The Cougs ended the first half with six turnovers to Chadron's eight.

CCU started out the second half with the ball and a Brett Brady layup which decreased the Eagles lead to only two points. One minute into the second half, the Cougs were able to gain control for the first time with a score of 34-33 CCU. Unfortunately it was short-lived as Chadron came back and took the lead making 38-42 with 16 minutes left in the game. Midway through the second half, Colorado Christian was able to find their rhythm and make gains on the Eagles 55-52. With 11 minutes remaining in the game, both teams had the foul bonus giving them extra scoring opportunities. The Cougars were able to capitalize on their momentum by increasing their lead to 66-56 with eight minutes left. Colorado Christian continued to dominate the court, excelling in a 10-point lead with only five minutes left in the game. CCU held on through a lot of back and forth scoring and was able to walk away victorious.

Brett Brady led both teams by scoring 27 points, Jacob Taylor had 10 rebounds, and Dimitri Saliba has five assists. The Cougs ended up out shooting Chadron slightly with 45.8% (27-59) to the Eagles 44.3% (27-61). Colorado Christian dominated at the charity stripe shooting at 82.9% (29-35).
