Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Daniel J Cook

Cougars Draw Verse Mountaineers

The CCU women's soccer team hosted the Mountaineers from Western State Colorado University during Homecoming weekend at Trailblazer Stadium. The teams played into a double-overtime draw at 0-0.

Though the game ended in a scoreless tie, it was not without its excitement. The Cougars were on a mission, ultimately launching 15 shots, nine in the first half, and forcing Western to make six saves throughout the game. The Mountaineers were not as aggressive, only managing five shots in 110 minutes of playing time. Freshman goalkeeper Ireland VanDyke made the start fresh off her RMAC Goalkeeper of the week honor, and was forced to make only two saves during the game.

As the game progressed the offensive action turned into stout defense on each side. In both overtime periods combined, the two teams took just three shots, only one of which required saving from Western.

The tie brings the Cougars to 4-7-2 on the season, and 1-5-2 in RMAC play. Sitting in 11th place currently with just four games left in the regular season, the Cougar's will need to string together a series of wins to put themselves into the playoff picture. The Cougs will host the Mountain Lions of UC Colorado Springs on Sunday at Trailblazer Stadium, kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
