The CCU women's soccer team took on RMAC foe Fort Lewis College today in Lakewood, CO. The Cougars were aiming to end a four game winless streak and were successful with today's 2-1 win over the Skyhawks.
Freshman
Ashleigh Maguire got the start in goal today after starting the first eight games of the season. Maguire faced just four shots on the day, and was forced to save only one. Fort Lewis started the scoring off with an early goal in the 12
th minute when a pass was deflected off a Cougar defender and was shot by a Skyhawks and off of Maguire's hands and into the net.
The Cougars were not far behind in scoring, netting an equalizer just 11 minutes later. Sophomore
Sarah Feller took a corner kick and kept it short, passing it to senior
Alyssa Regalado, who touched it back to Feller just outside of the 18-yard box who shot and drilled a goal into the top left corner of the net to even the score at 1-1. The goal was Fellers first of the season.
CCU would continue to press the action and eventually take the lead in the 33
rd minute. Senior
Lauren Cardoza lined up a free kick from around the 25 yard line and sent in a shot that found the top left corner of the goal. The Cougars would take that 2-1 lead into halftime with them.
The second half saw significantly less action as the exciting first half, with just two shots taken from Fort Lewis, and two corner kicks from CCU. The Cougars improve their season record to 5-9-2 and as well as their RMAC record to 3-5-1.
The Cougars will play their final regular season RMAC contest on Saturday, October 28. Senior Day festivities will begin about 20 minutes prior to kick-off at 11:00 a.m. at Trailblazer Stadium in Lakewood.
