Colorado Christian Volleyball was defeated by #14 Regis University on Friday night in three sets 25-13, 25-21, and 25-19. CCU had not lost a match in three sets since preseason when they took on #21 Angelo State. The loss makes the Cougars 10-3 in conference and still fighting for the opportunity to host a playoff game.
CCU struggled in the first set taking the lead only one time at 8-7. There were some good touches in the front row by the Cougars block, but the defense could not pick up a ball in the backrow. Regis took the lead again after 15 points and won the set 25-13.
CCU looked like a different team in the second set coming out with a 3-1 lead. They made the right adjustments in order to score points of the Rangers. Everything was going right and every player was doing their job on the court. Outsides were covering tips, middles were reading the blocks well, and the Cougs passing looked flawless. With big blocks and some smart short shots in the front row they were able to maintain the lead until 13-12, when Regis overcame at 14-13.
CCU outside hitter
Cali Bahnsen came alive in the front row scoring six kills in the second set, and right side hitter
Sophia Proano totaled a whopping eight kills. Despite the Cougs offensive stride with a .245 team hitting percentage, Regis still was able to pull off the win 25-21.
Christian fought in the third with CCU freshman outside hitter
Jacey Johnson leading with eight kills, but the Rangers defeated blue and gold 25-19. Johnson and Proano totaled a team high of 11 kills each and libero
Mariela Gonzalez had 14 digs. Regis doubled the Cougars in blocks 6-3, but Christian had more digs with 56 total compared to RU's 54.
The Cougars will be traveling to Chadron State College on Oct. 28
th. Game starts at 6:00 PM.
