CCU Volleyball defeated Adams State in four sets 25-18, 21-25, 25-23, and 25-18. CCU and Adams were equally matched throughout all four sets, but a large error by the Grizzles cost them the first set, and the Cougs consistency at the net gave them the upper-hand to win the last two.
Adams was playing a good game in the first set as CCU made 14 errors and was down 20-14. At this point something was off and the Cougs noticed. Adams State was out of rotation and had been for a long time. The scorekeeper had to trace back when the first out-of-rotation happened and it was at seven points. The score was changed to 14-7 CCU, and the game continued. Christian won 25-18. Both teams ran outstanding offenses in the second set as CCU hit .278% and the Grizzles .371%. With power hitting like that, ASU was sure to take the win and they did in the second set 25-21.
The Cougars consistency kept them in the third and fourth sets as the Grizzles offense diminished below .100%. CCU stayed strong and played well. The Cougs ran a heavy offense on the right side as
Sophia Proano totaled 46 attack attempts with 19 kills and four blocks. Proano almost doubled every other CCU hitter in attack attempts. CCU middle,
Hope Baldrica had 12 kills with only one error, hitting .500% with six blocks (1 solo). Christian totaled 11 blocks in four sets compared to ASU's eight. CCU setter
Kylee Wurster earned herself three kills and 11 digs with 46 assists.
The Cougars are on a five-game winning streak and are hoping to get six at Fort Lewis College on Oct. 7
th 5:00 PM.
