Earning their 6
th win in a row, CCU defeated Fort Lewis in four sets on October 7
th, in Durango, Colorado. After losing the first set 20-25, the Cougars came back and took the remaining sets in a close match.
The first set was neck and neck, until the last quarter of the set when the Skyhawks were able to take the lead and hold on to it with a final score of 25-20. The second set was even closer, finishing with a final score of 25-23 in the Cougars favor. Continuing to increase the lead, the Cougars took set three and four with scores of 25-21 and 25-17 respectively.
On the match, CCU hit .205 and the Skyhawks were just barely behind with a percentage of .199. Freshman
Jasa Scheierman lead the Cougars with her hitting percentage of .429, with 14 kills and two errors on 28 attempts. Senior
Sophia Proano lead the Cougars in kills after bringing in 18 and hitting .410. This was done thanks to the incredible setting done by junior
Kylee Wurster, who gave out 51 assists throughout the match.
Sophomore
Mariela Gonzalez lead the team in digs, with a total of 20. Senior
Abigail Bartalo was close behind with 16 digs and an additional two aces.
The win gives CCU a conference record of 7-1, and 10-7 overall. The Cougars will host their next match on Friday the 13
th, against Colorado Mesa University at 7pm.
