The CCU Cougars took on the Cougars of Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, CA, on Tuesday, November 14
th. CCU came into the game looking for their first win of the season following a pair defeats last week at the D-II Conference Challenge Tournament in Grand Junction.
The first half was another slow start for CCU, who only managed four points in the first eight minutes of the first half. That lull allowed Azusa to jump out to a 13-point lead and keep it around that mark until halftime.
The second half saw CCU's percentages improve across the board, shooting 50% from the field and 33% from three-point range, however Azusa did the same, shooting the lights out with 65% from the field and 50% from three-point range. APU's shooting clinic peaked the second half when Azusa took a 30-point lead over CCU.
CCU was led by sophomore center Marcus Fager who went 6-7 from the field totaling 12 of CCU's 29 first half points all while grabbing three rebounds in just 12 minutes of work. Fager would finish the game as the high scorer for both teams with 18 points.
Backing up Fagers efforts were junior guard
Jeremiah Hanson who scored 12 points and claimed all three of CCU's first half three-pointers, and redshirt junior
Stefan Hackethal who added 13 points, seven of which came in the second half.
The Cougars drop to 0-3 on the young season and will face their toughest opponent yet on November 15
th, when they travel to Riverside, CA, to take on the 14
th ranked Lancers from California Baptist University. Tip off will be at 8:00 p.m. MST.
