The Lady Cougars sealed their weekend with another win vs Adams State University. The Cougars defeated the Grizzles in four sets dropping the first 25-21, but then winning the next three in a row 25-17, 26-24, and 25-22. This win still has the Cougars sitting in fourth place in the RMAC standings at 13-3 in conference play.
It was a fast and feisty game between the two squads. The first set was an unfortunate loss considering CCU was up 12-6. A series of Cougar hitting errors and a few good kills by the Grizzles had them tied at 13s, but then Adams made strides towards 25. The Cougars could not make a serve over the net which propelled the Grizzles to win the set 25-21.
Despite a rough start, CCU came out strong the next three sets. Every player stepped up their game and put the pressure on the Grizzles. ASU hit negative in the second set with ten fatal errors that had them downed by blue and gold 25-17.
The third set was point-for-point and had the fans holding their breath. Both teams were on fire in the front row. It was an offensive showdown as the Cougars had 15 kills and Adams had 17. Each team had five errors, but Christian passed better, served better, and totaled two more digs. With three aces and two more digs than the Grizzles, the Cougs were able to pull the win off 26-24.
ASU and CCU kept at it. They would trail a point behind and then gain a point ahead. They were neck-and-neck until 20-20 when the Cougars were able to score three points in a row. The winner was going to be the team that hit the ball in. Christian was that team as outside hitter
Marilyn Suarez had two kills, and the Grizzles offense made two hitting errors. CCU hit .195% compared to Adams .000% and had four total team blocks. They won 25-22.
CCU Volleyball showed great teamwork against the Grizzles. Setter
Kylee Wurster was practically perfect on the night hitting .600% with six kills, no errors, 45 assists, and 12 digs. Senior middle hitter
Angela Jurek led in blocks with seven. Libero
Mariela Gonzalez had a whopping 32 digs in left back and senior right side hitter
Sophia Proano had 15 kills.
The Cougars will be playing a mid-week game against #17 Colorado School of Mines on Tuesday, Nov. 7
th 7:00 PM at the CCU Event Center.
