In their mid-week game vs #16 Colorado School of Mines, the Lady Cougars were defeated in four sets 25-21, 17-25, 20-25, 21-25. The Oredigger's middle hitters were unstoppable on offense, both hitting over .400% with a combined total of 34 kills. Mines had a total of 60 team kills, with their middles accounting for over half.
The defeat was due to poor passing and poor serving on the Cougars side of the court. They couldn't find the zone to run an efficient offense, and made several overpasses giving CSM the ball. Despite the defeat in the back row, CCU's blocking was a force to be reckoned with. The Cougs totaled 11 team blocks compared to Mines' seven.
Sophia Proano had five blocks, with two solos. Proano also led the Cougars in kills with 13.
Christian's middle hitters played a good game at the net as well. Freshman #9
Jasa Scheierman hit .353% with nine kills, and #10
Hope Baldrica hit .294% with six kills and only one error. Scheierman had a perfect game in set 1 with six kills, no errors, off six attempts hitting 1.000%. Additionally, Baldrica had four big blocks against the Orediggers. Defensively, libero
Mariela Gonzalez made some incredible ups in left back and led the team with 21 digs.
