The Cougars took on the Eagles of Chadron State College in Chadron, Nebraska. Each team came into the game seeking their first RMAC win of the season. The Cougars took on Regis on Saturday while the Eagles fell to Colorado School of Mines last Friday.
Â
It was evident early on that Chadron had done their scouting, as they were locked in on CCU's leading scorer Stefen Hackethal from the tip. They gave him no space to work and was held to just three points in the first half, and seven for the game. The Eagles would hold the Cougars scoreless for the final four and a half minutes to go into halftime up 26-34.
Â
The second half saw the Eagles pull away early and build on that throughout the next 20 minutes. Chadron built that lead by shooting a devastating 56% from 3-point range for the game. CCU was led tonight by
Jeremiah Hanson who scored a team high 17 points and grabbed six boards and
Isaiah Hanson who scored 11 points.
Â
The difference in the game was largely points off turnovers. The Eagles notched 12 points off nine Cougar turnovers. The trend continued in the second half with Chadron scoring another 14 points off 10 more CCU turnovers.
Â
The loss drops CCU to 1-7 overall on the season and 0-2 in RMACÂ play. The Cougars will host their first home game this Friday, December 8
th, when South Dakota School of Mines comes to Lakewood for a 7:00 p.m. tipoff.
