Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Roadrunners Fall to Cougs for the Second Time This Season Making History

In the second-to-last conference game vs Metro State the CCU Men's Basketball team made RMAC history defeating the Roadrunners twice in a season. This win tonight, 88-77, was the first time since 2008 the Cougars beat MSUD on their home court. Earlier in the season Christian beat Metro at Metro for the first time in 23 years.

First Half
Christian struggled on defense throughout the whole game. They couldn't seem to catch anything on the rebound in the first half. Metro had nine offensive rebounds compared to the Cougars three. CCU battled hard on offense and had good shooting percentages going into the locker room (54% FG, 55% 3FG), but was short six points 42-36.  The Roadrunners had two more three pointers in the first half that put them ahead. Brett Brady led blue and gold with ten points, and Dimitri Saliba had five rebounds and four assists. Andre Lane went 3-3 from downtown.

Second Half

Going into the second half, Lane continued to tear it up from the outside. He finished the game with a team high of 20 points, shooting 6-9 from three, and 2-2 the line. The play was back and forth between the two squads in the second half, never leading by more than four points. Dimitri Saliba was unstoppable, making smart plays, aggressive defense, and timely shots. He scored 18 points in the second half compared to only three in the first.

With a minute in a half left the Cougs finally led by five points 77-72, but still struggled get a rebound, resulting in a bucket for the Roadrunners. The score was 77-74 Metro's ball. Christian gained the lead again by five with a couple of free throws 79-74. It was in the air. The crowd and Cougar squad was "feeling it". With 45 seconds left, CCU was up 80-76 and then Metro turned the ball over, and started making intentional fouls to see if they could make gains. Colo. Christian won the game vs Metro State for the second time this season 88-77.

CCU's five starters Saliba, Lane, Taylor, McGee, and Brady all played over 30 minutes in the game and scored in double digits. Jacob Taylor had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, Brady scored 17 points, and McGee had 12.

The CCU Men's Basketball team is currently placing seventh for the RMAC tournament, but nothing is set in stone until after the last game tomorrow, Feb. 25th at 7:00 PM. CCU plays UCCS at the CCU Event Center at 7:00 PM.
