The CCU women's soccer team improved to 2-2-0 on the season on Sunday afternoon after defeating Montana State University – Billings 2-1. The game marked the end of long road trip for the Cougars which consisted of four out of state, non-conference games in South Dakota, Nebraska, and a pair in Montana.

Scoring was initiated by MSUB in the 29
th minute of the first half when a shot from outside the 18-yard box found its way into the back of the net.

The Cougars responded with a goal of their own shortly after in the 39
th minute when a corner kick from sophomore
Sarah Feller fell into the box and was eventually found and finished by senior
Madison McLain for her first goal of the still young season

The second half saw much of what we are growing accustom to with CCU's women's soccer team, a strong defensive presence and a beneficially lop-sided percentage of time of possession. That defense directly correlates to offense by creating chances for shots. The half opened with CCU launching four shots in the first seven minutes, two of which needed to be saved by MSUB's keeper.

The fifth shot by CCU in the half would turn out to be the difference in the game. In the 57
th minute, the Yellowjacket's keeper played in a free kick that seemed to find its way directly to senior
Lauren Cardoza. Cardoza wasted no time taking advantages of the mistake and launched a shot from 30 yards out that curled over the out stretched arms of MSUB's goalie and into the net for her first score of the season.

The rest of the second half was a bit of a defensive clinic by CCU, allowing no MSUB shots in the final 30 minutes of the game. The Cougars ended up outshooting the Yellowjackets 15-4 by the end of the game, and 8-4 in shots on goal.

The Cougars close out preseason play against the Tars from Rollins College on Tuesday, September 12, at 6:00 p.m. The game will be CCU women's first home game of the season, held at Trailblazer Stadium in Lakewood, CO.
