CCU Women's Soccer notched another victory in their last preseason game of the year. Colorado Christian defeated Rollins College with a single goal 1-0. The Cougs will head into conference season 3-2.
In the first half the teams battled but ended in a scoreless period with an equal five shots for both squads. Ironically for the Cougars, the highlight of the first half was when Rollins almost scored a goal. CCU starting goalie
Ashleigh Maguire misread the shot and came outside the box missing the clearance. Rollins now had a clean, open shot to an empty net, but out of nowhere CCU midfielder
Lauren Cardoza came into the goal at the right time and saved the ball with a jump kick to clear it.
Rollins totaled five more shots in the second half and the Cougs had four.
Lauren Cardoza won the game in two different ways. First by making an incredible "ninja" like save in the box to prevent the Tars from scoring and two by scoring the solo goal of the game.
With 26 minutes left in the game, CCU senior
Lauren Cardoza took a chance and kicked a hard ball from the far right side of the field about 20 yards out that dropped into the far left side of the goal. The Tars goalie didn't even make a move the ball was so perfectly placed. CCU switched goalie's at half time with
Ireland VanDyke coming in and making two big saves to finalize the score at 1-0 CCU.
Women's Soccer will start the RMAC season at Regis University on 9/15 at 3:30 PM.
