CCU Men's Soccer traveled just down the road to Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado for their fifth game of conference play on September 29th. The Orediggers, currently ranked 20th in the nation, shutout the Cougars with a final score of 3-0. The Cougars are now 1-4-0 in conference, and 1-7-1 overall.
With only nine shots total put up in the first half, the game was off to a slow start. CCU got up their one and only shot of the game in the first half while CSM got up eight. The Orediggers continued the attack and put up a total of 27 shots throughout the game, scoring three times.
Coming in to the second half, the Orediggers were quick to get their first goal in after only a minute of play. In the 59th minute of play, senior Joe Wilkes made an incredible save when he cleared a volley off the line which would have been the Orediggers second goal. A few minutes later CSM made up for the save and put in their second goal, followed by an unlucky own goal on CCU to make the final score of 3-0.
CCU dealt 14 fouls and four yellow cards, and CSM dealt 16 fouls.
Freshman goalie Will Ford had nine saves throughout the game.
The Cougars next game will be played on Sunday, October 1st at Regis University at 3pm. The Regis Rangers are currently 2-3 in conference play and coming off of a win against Metro State, but the Cougars are hopeful and ready to fight on.
