Mountaineers Make Their Mark

CCU Men's Basketball was on the road tonight to take on the Mountaineers of Western State Colorado University. The Cougars were defeated by 14 with a final score of 86-72. Coming in to the game, the teams were only a game apart in their conference campaign. CCU had a record of 2-6 in RMAC play and WSCU held a record of 3-6.

To start the game, Western grabbed their first point off of a free throw. Isaiah Hanson brought in the first 6 points for the Cougars, and held the team high at the half with 9. Justin Engesser, Stefan Hackethal, and Jeremiah Hanson were all tied up with 7 points a piece going into halftime. The Mountaineers held a strong first half, and tripled the Cougars 3 three-pointers to total 9 from beyond the arch. This gave Western the advantage with a score of 48-34 heading to the locker rooms.

Throughout the second half, both teams put up 38 points each. The Cougars slow start and 14-point deficit in the first half, combined with the Mountaineers 15 three-pointers helped lead to the double-digit loss.

Stefan Hackethal lead the Cougars with 19 points, followed by Isaiah and Jeremiah Hanson with 18 and 16 points respectively.

The loss gives CCU an overall record of 3-12, and 2-7 in conference. The next game is on the road again at Colorado Mesa University on January 13th, with a 7:30pm tipoff.
