Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Stephen Hinkel

A Scoreless Draw

LAKEWOOD, CO – Playing under the lights provided a unique atmosphere for a Colorado Christian squad who normally plays its home games during the daytime hours. The result was just about as unique as and rare as the kickoff time.

On a brisk Saturday evening, Colorado Christian and South Dakota School of Mines played the first scoreless game in the RMAC this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Each team had their opportunities. Will Ford made two saves to keep South Dakota Mines off the scoreboard. Conversely Tannar Mackay nearly put the Cougars in front but his back heel attempt went just wide of the left post.

In the second half the game took a turn in the Cougars favor as South Dakota School of Mines had to play with 10 players after a red card just before the midway point of the frame. As the clocked ticked to zero, neither team could break through despite opportunities in the box.

During the two 10-minute extra sessions, there were possibilities for both squads but ultimately neither team was able to get a shot on goal.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

- The Hardrockers held a 16-5 edge in total shots (3-2 SOG)
- Will Ford notched his second shutout of the season with three saves
- A chippy game with 52 total fouls with six yellow cards and the red card

TIES AND NO GOALS: The tie for Colorado Christian was the first for the squad since they played UC Colorado Springs to a 1-1 draw exactly one year ago. Moreover it was nearly three years ago since the squads last 0-0 game. On Oct. 16, 2015 the Cougars and Adam State went scoreless.

UP NEXT: The Cougars travel to UC Colorado Springs for 6:00 p.m. Friday contest against the Mountains Lions.
