Closing out their home weekend with a win, the Cougars took senior night by storm with the sweep. The 3-0 win was over the Hardrockers of South Dakota School of Mines.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Playing their best set of the match, Colorado Christian kept it exciting. The set was neck and neck for most of the set, until the Cougars went on a seven point run to take the lead. They continued to keep the pressure on and finished the set with a kill from
Cali Bahnsen to win 25-20. The match high was reached in set one for the Cougars with 15 kills and a .256 hitting percentage.
The second set saw the Cougars keeping the pressure on and forcing the Hardrocker offense to make some changes. The set was finished off with a set and kill from senior duo
Hope Baldrica and
Kylee Wurster, winning 25-18.
Starting off the set with a 4-0 run, Colorado Christian continued the trend of starting out strong. South Dakota Mines however fought back to tie it up at 8's. The strong offense and serving game from the Cougars continued to prevail and pushed the team ahead to win 25-19.
MATCH LEADERS: With 12 kills,
Jacey Johnson led the Cougars in numbers. However from a percentage side the top two were the seniors honored tonight,
Kylee Wurster with .444 and
Hope Baldrica with .389. Leading defensively was
Mariela Gonzalez with 19 digs, with
Christa Tucker also in the double digits with 11.
WHAT'S NEXT: The win gives the Cougars an overall record of 12-12, and a conference record of 10-5. The team will travel to Utah for their next round of play, facing Dixie State for the first time on Friday, October 26th at 6pm.
