Dixie Deals a Defeat

After traveling to St. George, Utah, for their last away weekend of regular season, the Cougars began the weekend with a 0-3 loss to the Dixie State Trailblazers.

HOW IT HAPPENED: With a three point run to start the match, Dixie State came out strong. They continued to keep the pressure on with their clean offense while the Cougars were high error. At one point the Cougars were down by ten, 17-7, but had a couple short runs to shorten the final deficit to 6 with a final score of 25-19.

With an unstoppable offense in set two, the Trailblazers hit an impressive match high of .577 and had their team high of 17 kills. Dixie State won set two 25-16.

Set three was a different story for the Cougars. Their hitting percentage improved every set throughout the match, making the third their best. Set three saw Colorado Christian earning the match high of 19 kills. Even though Dixie State started with a 3-0 run again, Colorado Christian responded with a 3-0 run of their own to tie it up. From there the Cougars took their first lead of the match. The teams continued to trade off leads until the pressure was on when it was tied up at 23. The teams continued to rally into extra points to tie it up at 28-28, but the Trailblazers finished the match with back to back blocks to win 30-28.

MATCH LEADERS: Leading the Cougars in kills was Cali Bahnsen with 12. Top hitting percentage on the match for both teams was Hope Baldrica with .583. With 2 aces and 13 digs, the leading defensive player was Mariela Gonzalez.

WHAT'S NEXT: The loss gives Colorado Christian an overall record of 12-13, and an RMAC record of 10-6. The Cougars next game is on Saturday, October 27th, at 4pm against the Griffins of Westminster College to finish their away conference campaign.
