Four Set Finish

Hosting their pink out match supporting breast cancer, Colorado Christian earned their win in four sets over Adams State.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Starting off the match strong, the Cougars began set one with a 7-1 lead over the Grizzlies. Colorado Christian continued to chip away at their lead to give them the ten point win, 25-15.

Set two was in the favor of Adams State from the get go, after going on a 4-0 run. The Cougars were able to battle back to tie it up at 5's. From there the Grizzlies took their lead and ran with it. Colorado Christians offense was unable to get into their normal rhythm, hitting a .000. This resulted in a win for Adams State 25-19.

Making up for their offensive efforts in set two, the Cougars came out and hit a match high of .357 and 17 kills in set three to make their mark. Taking an early lead, Colorado Christian went up 18-9 before the Grizzlies began to play a more consistent game. The Cougars finished out the set with an eight point win of 25-17.

Set four was a closer set throughout as the teams battled it out in numerous long rallies. When the score was tied up 17-17, the Cougars fought with the pressure on to take the lead. The match was finished off with two back to back kills from Cali Bahnsen, with a final score of 25-20. 

MATCH LEADERS: Leading the Cougars offensively was Cali Bahnsen, hitting .370 and tallying 21 kills. Also in the double digits was Katie Henry with 12. The dynamic freshman duo of Ashley Drye and Kristy Dick put up four blocks together. Playing lights out, Mariela Gonzalez kept the Cougars going with 30 digs. Also in double digits was Jacey Johnson with 16. The final Cougar with double digit digs was Kylee Wurster, earning yet another double double after dishing out 46 assists and 14 digs.

WHAT'S NEXT: The win gives the Cougars an overall record of 8-11, and a conference record of 6-4. Hosting their next game, the team will take on the Skyhawks of Fort Lewis College on October 6th at 5pm.
