Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Stephen Hinkel

Good One for the Cougars

LAKEWOOD, Colo. – All the effort and hard worked paid off well on Sunday afternoon.

Though the skies were overcast and wind was chilly, there was nothing but bright smiles and warm spirits as the Colorado Christian men's soccer team notched their initial win of the season with a 2-0 victory against Adams State.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The game's momentum was ripe for the taking throughout the first half but neither team could firmly grab it as the squad's stayed scoreless after the opening 45 minutes.

That all changed just a few minutes into the second half. Colorado Christian scored their first goal on a beautiful diving header by Blake Goodale. The senior dove across the goalie box from about six yards out after Dominic Deatherage passed than ball from the left side in the 50th minute.

The Cougars nearly made the score 2-0 but Goodale's penalty kick was saved when Adams State goalie Jacob Faircloth guessed correctly on the attempt to his right.

Tensions remained high as the home team kept their lead. In the last minute of the game the Grizzles drew a corner kick and pushed every player into the box. Colorado Christian defended the attempt nicely and after Faircloth misplayed the ball Dohnovyn Jackson controlled the ball and raced 80 yards with the ball towards his offensive end to secure the game with a goal with 20 seconds left.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

- The Cougars won the shots battle with a 16-10 edge (7-4 for shots on goal)
- Will Ford recorded his first shutout with a four save afternoon
- Goodale took a team best four shots
- Each team took three corner kicks
