Strong Shooting Equals Win

LAKEWOOD, CO – After a four-game road swing to start the season, the Cougars were more than ready to put on their home uniforms.

In their home debut, Colorado Christian used a strong shooting effort to post an 89-81 win against Haskell Indian Nation on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED: In both frames the Cougars shot at least 50 percent and they never trailed in tallying their second win in five games this season.

Colorado Christian built their biggest lead of the game in the first half by taking a 31-15 edge with 4:20 left until halftime. The Indians closed their gap as the teams went into halftime with the Cougars up 35-29.

As the second half unfolded the Cougars methodically built their lead and went up by 14 points on two occasions just before the midway point of the period. Haskell Indian Nation dwindled their deficit down after a handful of three-pointers. The closest the game got was 69-66 with just over four minutes left.

However, Colorado Christian responded with a 13-4 scoring spurt to all but seal the contest.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

- Braxton Tucker recorded the first double-double of the season for the Cougars (17 pts, 10 rebounds)
- Collin Huun tallied a team best 21 points in 33 minutes
- Jeremiah Hanson (19 points) and Justin Engesser (16 points) were also in double figures
- Colorado Christian's 54 points in the second half were the most for the squad since Jeff Hironaka took over the program last year

QUOTABLE: "When we got into our sets I was happy with the way we ran our offense," said Hironaka. "I thought Justin and Braxton continued to be our most consistent players and I'm pleased to see them continue play well."

UP NEXT: The Cougars concluded their weekend by hosting Kansas Wesleyan tomorrow at 2 p.m.
