DENVER, CO – Heading down the road for their third conference game, the Cougars played at Regis University in Denver. Although Colorado Christian took the Rangers to four sets just a couple weeks before, this time Regis won with the sweep.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The match started out with a close game, as the teams traded leads back and forth throughout the first set. The Rangers pulled away with the lead at the end, going up 24-20. Not giving up yet, the Cougars landed three points in a row after an ace from Jacey Johnson and two kills from Katie Henry. Regis however earned the next point, taking the set 25-23.
The second set saw the Regis offense take control, going on a couple long runs to set the difference. The strong offense kept the Cougars out of system and unable to run their own offense, only hitting a .062 while Regis hit .297 and a match high of 16 kills.
Turning it around, the Cougar hitters were playing a cleaner game in the third set. The teams almost matched hitting stats, only being set apart by one error. Both teams had 35 total attempts, but Colorado Christian had 14 kills and 6Â errors, and Regis had one additional kill with 15 and 5 errors. The Cougars had the lead for most of the set, but when the teams were tied at 21 the Rangers went on a 4-0 run to win the set.
MATCH LEADERS: The only Cougar in double digits from the net was Cali Bahnsen, leading with 13. With the percentage high yet again was Katie Henry hitting .500. Jacey Johnson led the team in digs with 14.
WHAT'S NEXT: The loss gives the team a conference record of 1-2, and an overall record of 3-9 overall. With an away weekend, the Cougars next game will be at Metro State on Friday, September 14th at 7pm.
