Hitting the road for their first away weekend of conference, the Cougars were downed by the Roadrunners after four close sets. Colorado Christian lost by only three points each time.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Although the Cougars were down by seven at one point, a couple long runs near the end of the set got them back in the game to keep it within two. Despite the momentum, the Roadrunners finished the set and won 25-22.
The second set was nothing short of exciting, as the teams both had long runs to put them ahead, but in the end the teams came back to going point for point. The Cougars were up 22-16, and Metro went on a four point run to make the score 22-20. They even came back and took the lead, 24-23. But the Cougars prevailed despite all the pressure, and finally won the set 31-29.
Taking the lead from the beginning and never giving it back, Metro tied their first set score and finished with the three point win in the third set. Both teams hit their match highs in percentage, Colorado Christian hitting .316, and Metro hitting an incredible .395.
Yet again finishing the set with a score of 25-22, the Roadrunners took set four to win the match. The teams were tied throughout most of the set. The teams were tied at 22, and three unforced errors from the Cougars finished the match.
MATCH LEADERS: Leading in kills was outside hitter
Jacey Johnson, racking up 19 kills and hitting a .333. The only other Cougar in the double digits was
Katie Henry, bringing in 10. Leading in percentage was
Kristy Dick, hitting .400. Bringing in another double-double was
Kylee Wurster, with 47 assists and 13 digs. Leading in digs was
Mariela Gonzalez with 24.
WHAT'S NEXT: The loss gives the Cougars a conference record of 1-3, and 3-10 overall. Traveling overnight for their next match, Colorado Christian will play at Chadron State on Saturday, September 15th at 6:00pm.
