Cougars Fall in Opener

LAKEWOOD, Colo. – It wasn't not the start to the season the Cougars were looking for.

After a steady back-and-forth play for the first 30 minutes things were shaping up for a tight game. Unfortunately, a late first half frenzy paced Lubbock Christian to a 5-0 win.

IT WAS DECIDED WHEN: The game was scoreless until the 32nd minute when Lubbock Christian scored thee goals in a span of less than 14 minutes. Conner Dean struck a rocket of shot from 20 yards out that hit the side netting to open the scoring.

The Chaps scored two goals less than a minute apart as Tariq Bakkali and Cade Von Heimburg found the back of the net in the 44th and 45th minute respectively.

In the final 20 minutes both Marcelo Pacheco and Bakkali scored to complete the scoring.

CLOSE BUT NO: Colorado Christian had a pair of excellent chances in the second half but couldn't tickle the twine. Larson Hanlin hit a laser shot from about 35 yards out that was headed for the top of the cage but a diving attempt by Lubbock Christian Braxton Thorne kept the Cougars off the scoreboard.

In the 66th minute Ethan Poulter hit a shot on frame but, once again, Thorne was up to the task and made the save to preserve his shutout.
