Ending their four game win streak and getting a taste of their own medicine, the Cougars were downed in three by the Mavericks of Colorado Mesa.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Mavericks, coming off of a big win the night before against Regis University, showed up in the first set with an unstoppable offense. With 14 kills, Mesa hit .565 to start the match. The Cougars were unable to rally back, and lost the set 25-15.
Coming alive in the second set, the Cougars fought back to stay in the match. Mesa pulled ahead at the beginning with a six point lead, but Colorado Christian did not back down. The teams were neck and neck throughout the set once the Cougars tied it back up at 15. The Mavericks prevailed and took the set in extra points, 28-26.
Carrying their momentum over into the third set, Mesa continued to play lights out offense. The Mavericks won the final set 25-9.
MATCH LEADERS: Leading the Cougars in kills was middle Katie Henry with 7. Leading in percentage was setter Kylee Wurster with .333.
WHAT'S NEXT: The loss gives Colorado Christian a conference record of 5-4 and an overall record of 7-11. The next matches for the Cougars will be at home starting on Friday, October 5th against Adams State University.
