Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | Madeline Marr

Victorious Conference Opener

Colorado Christian opened up their conference campaign with a home win against the Mountain Lions of UC Colorado Springs. Tonight's match looked very similar after going to four sets and a victory for the Cougars. Although Colorado Springs took the first set, the Cougars came back to win three straight and take the match.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
From the very beginning of set one, UC Colorado Springs took the lead and never gave it back. The Cougars tried to shorten the margin and came within one point of tying it up, but the Mountain Lions prevailed to win the set by six.

Set two however was dominated by the Cougars. At one point they took a six point run to give them a comfortable lead, and another four point run to close out the set and win by ten, 25-15.
Carrying off of their momentum from set two, Colorado Christian continued to thrive in set three. They were consistent offensively and were able to dig up everything the Mountain Lions sent over, winning 25-16.

Going neck and neck the fourth set, the teams found themselves tied up at 13s. But an eight point run from the Cougars gave them another comfortable lead that they continued to edge away at, closing out the set with a couple solo blocks from Jacey Johnson and Katie Henry to finish the match strong. The final score of set four was 25-17.

MATCH LEADERS:
Leading the Cougars offensively was outside hitter Cali Bahnsen, tallying 14 kills and hitting .481. Jacey Johnson was also in the double digits for kills, earning 13. Freshman middle blocker Kristy Dick had an impressive first career start and hit .375 with 8 kills, as well as 5 block assists. Kylee Wurster was strong both offensively and defensively, dealing 41 assists and 9 digs. Tied with ten digs a piece, Jacey Johnson and Mariela Gonzalez lead defensively. Another impressive stat came from Kaira Smith, who earned 4 aces against the Mountain Lions.
The win gives the Cougars an overall record of 3-7 overall, and 1-0 in the RMAC. The Cougars will continue their opening conference weekend as they host the Orediggers from Colorado School of Mines on Saturday, September 8th at 5:00pm
