BILLINGS, Mont. – The ship turned a little bit in a positive direction as Colorado Christian closed out the non-conference portion of their schedule.
A goal in each half was enough for the University of Mary as they posted a 2-0 win against the Cougars at the Rimrock Classic hosted by Montana State Billings on Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED: After chances by both teams in the opening 30 minutes, the Marauders got on the scoreboard when Adam Stringer hit a shot from the right side that crossed the goal line in the 33rd minute. Despite efforts by each team in their respective offensive thirds during the final minutes of the period, the Stringer goal was the only one in the first half.
As the second half began the University of Mary was the aggressor as they took the first five shots and four corner kicks but the Cougars defense stayed firm and kept their deficit at one. In the 71st minute Larson Hanlin put a shot on a frame but Marauder goalkeeper Lukas Billhardt made the save.
In the 79th minute the University of Mary found their insurance goal when Mitch Carter cracked a shot after a through ball from Blake Palmquist to all but seal the game.
Colorado Christian got off three shots in the final 11 minutes but couldn't put one on frame.
