Late Goal Downs Cougars

SALT LAKE CITY, UT – Colorado Christian concluded the Utah road trip today as they battled it out with Westminster.

The game was close contested throughout with the Griffins pulling away with a late goal to secure the 1-0 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Westminster started off hot on offense with 21 shots in the first half, despite the onslaught, the Cougars held strong as Ireland VanDyke made five saves.

The game stayed as a tight defensive contest through the rest of the first half and into the second. Westminster broke through the Cougars defense in the 81st minute with a goal to take a 1-0 lead.

With limited time remaining the Cougars were not able to even the score and fell to 0-2 on the road trip.

COUGAR LEADERS: Sarah Butler led the way with two shots for the team, Saige Stock and Sophie Kern both had one shot. VanDyke had six saves in goal for the Cougars.

STATS FROM THE GAME:

  • Four Cougars played the entire 90 minutes of the game
  • VanDyke now has 27 saves on the season


UP NEXT: The Cougars return home next weekend for the final home series of the regular season as they host MSU Denver on Friday, Oct. 18 at 11 a.m. at Trailblazer Stadium.
