LAKEWOOD, CO – Colorado Christian University was back home this weekend, as they played against MSU Denver in the final home weekend of the year.
The Cougars and Roadrunners battled under dark skies and scattered rain in a back-and-forth affair that saw MSU Denver pull away with a 2-1 victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED: MSU Denver scored first, with a goal in the 18th minute of play. The two teams stayed evenly matched throughout the rest of the first half, with MSU Denver recording eight shots and the Cougars firing four shots off.
Ireland VanDyke had a big first half with five saves to start the game off.
The second half saw MSU Denver score again, on a header in the goalie box off a cross from the right side of the field to put the Roadrunners up 2-0.
The Cougars struck back in the 77th minute with a penalty goal from Amanda Lopez, after Sarah Butler drew a foul in the box.
The Cougars had two good chances in the final five minutes of game time but were not able to put the ball in the net.
COUGAR LEADERS: Sarah Feller led the team in shots with three, two of them being on goal. Lopez had two shots as well. Molly Miller recorded one shot on goal as well. VanDyke recorded 10 saves in goal as well.
