Cougars Drop 2-0 Decision to RMAC Leaders

GOLDEN, CO – Under partly cloudy skies and blustery conditions, Colorado Christian did well but fell short against the RMAC leaders.

The Colorado School of Mines men's soccer team overcame the 40 mile per hour wind gusts to post a 2-0 win against the Cougars.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The home team started the scoring in the 11th minute when Lucas King hit a shot that found the high left side corner.

Colorado School of Mines continued to hold that 1-0 lead until the 29th minute when Connor Loveren found the back of the cage on a Michael Sprauer assist.

With 18 minutes left the Cougars nearly pulled within a goal of the lead on a set piece. Kyle McMillian played great ball into the box but Liam Lakey's header was saved by Oredigger goalie Drew Johnson.

Despite 10 total shots in the second half, four of which were on frame, the Orediggers couldn't beat the Cougars backline.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

  • Max Collingwood recorded nine saves and has 23 total in his last two contests
  • The home team held a 25-2 shooting edge
  • Colorado Christian held the Orediggers scoreless in a half for first time since a 2017 meeting

UP NEXT: The Cougars conclude their home slate with a pair of RMAC games this weekend. They begin that two-game stretch on Friday vs. Regis. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Lakewood Memorial Stadium.
