DURANGO, CO – Colorado Christian faced Fort Lewis Sunday on a matchup that was exciting down to the final whistle.
Two scores in the final minute of play were the story of the game as the Cougars tied the game at one in the 89th minute just to see the lead taken back by Fort Lewis mere seconds later.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The first half was relatively uneventful, with only five shots in total, and one Cougar corner kick. What the first half lacked in offense, it made up for in physical defense, with Colorado Christian receiving seven fouls and Fort Lewis being charged with eight.
Fort Lewis opened the scoring in the 56th minute, a penalty kick was awarded to the Skyhawks and they capitalized, creating a one goal lead.
The game stayed tight with the Cougars receiving many opportunities but stymied by seven second half saves by the Fort Lewis goal keeper.
Colorado Christian got on the board in the 89th minute as Brook-lyn Schultz scored the first goal of the game and her third of the season off a corner kick from Sarah Feller.
Fort Lewis retook the lead almost right away as they scored nine seconds later to take the lead for good.
COUGAR LEADERS: Feller led the team with four shots, Dakoda Martinez led with three shots on goal. Adrianna Todd, and Feller both recorded two shots on goal as well. Ireland VanDyke had two saves at goalie for the Cougars.
