LAKEWOOD – A pair of Colorado Christian standouts were recognized by the RMAC for their play during the 2019 season.
Both Cali Bahnsen and Mariela Gonzalez earned post-season accolades from the league's coaches. Bahnsen was voted to the conference's second-team while Gonzalez earned honorable mention accolades.
The seniors have been acknowledged on multiple occasions by the RMAC. Last season Bahnsen was a first-team honoree while Gonzalez has now earned honorable mention recognition three times.
Cali Bahnsen
This season the native of Greeley, CO ranked sixth in the conference with a 3.08 kills per set average. Bahnsen had 16 matches with at least 10 kills with a season high of 24 against Missouri Southern State. From her outside hitter spot she posted 10 matches a .300 hitting percentage or better.
During the season she hit a career milestone when she became the seventh player in school history to surpass the 1,000 career kill mark. Bahnsen accumulated 1,050 kills in her four seasons at Colorado Christian.
Mariela Gonzalez
In her final season in a Cougar uniform was steady along the backlines as the libero tallied 565 digs. Her 5.59 digs per set average ranks 26th in the nation and fourth among RMAC players. Gonzalez never had less than 10 digs in any of the squad's 26 matches. She had a career high 36 digs in a late season win at South Dakota Mines. She was also one of the team's most effective servers as she registered 21 aces.
Less than a month into the season she tallied her 2,000 career dig. The native of San Antonio, TX will graduate as the school's all-time leader in that category with 2,232.
