Cougars Fall in Five

Closing out their weekend with their sixth match in a row that went to five sets, the Cougars were unable to finish it out against the Yellow Jackets to give them a split on the weekend.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The match started out with Black Hills taking the lead from the get go, but Colorado Christian fought their way back in near the end of the set after going on a 5 point run to take the lead by 2. The teams were tied up at 22 when the Yellow Jackets went on a 3-0 run to take the win in set one.

Not taking the loss lightly, the Cougars came out in the second set on fire. They kept a steady offense to take the win in set 2, 25-12.

The Yellow Jackets played stronger coming into the third, but the Cougars still came out with the win to put them up 2-0. The teams were tied up at 23, and Colorado Christian responded to the pressure to score the next two.

The fourth set was neck and neck to the very end with the teams tied up at 24. However this time around Black Hills scored the next 2 points to seal the win and tie up the match with 2 sets a piece.

Closing it out in close fashion, the teams were tied up at 9's before the Yellow Jackets were able to pull away after a few unforced errors from the Cougars. Black Hills closed it out with a fifth set win 15-11.

MATCH LEADERS: A notable part of the night was Cali Bahnsen hitting her 1,000th career kill in the first set, and leading the team yet again with 20 kills on the night. Three others were in double digits, including Jacey Johnson with 15, Kristy Dick with 12, and Katie Henry with 11. Numerous Cougars were also in double digits for dogs as well. Mariela Gonzalez led with 26, followed by Christa Tucker with 20, Kaylee Bundrick with 16, and Katie Smith with 15.

UP NEXT: The loss gives the team an overall record of 9-14 overall and 5-10 in conference. Colorado Christian will host their next game for their final home weekend of the year. Senior night will be held on Friday, November 8th against Westminster at 7pm, followed by Dixie State on Saturday, November 9th at 7pm as well.
