ST. GEORGE, UT – Sunday afternoon's road finale was gut punch.
Despite never trailing until the last minutes of the game, the Colorado Christian men's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to Dixie State.
HOW IT HAPPENED: It couldn't have started any better for the Cougars. Dmitri Fabro scored in the game's second minute on penalty kick to start the scoring. Colorado Christian continued to hold that lead until Daniel Brubaker found the back of the cage in the 16th minute.
Dixie State controlled a fair amount of the possession but their offensive effort fell by the waste side as the teams went into the locker room tied at 1-1.
Coming out for the second stanza, the Trailblazer continued to apply pressure but couldn't break through despite taking six of the second half's first seven shots.
With just under two minutes left the home team found the game winning goal. Julian Herrera headed a corner kick from Logan Beus into the back of the cage. Dixie State scored a breakway goal 37 seconds later when John Joseph beat Cougar goalie Max Collingwood in a one-on-one situation.
