Dixie State Extends Winning Streak

ST. GEORGE, UT – Stopping a team with a 10-plus game winning streak is hard enough. Doing so on their home court is nearly impossible.

Dixie State ran its winning streak to 12 games with an 87-55 win against Colorado Christian on Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Despite seeing the Trailblazer race out to a 33-13 lead, Colorado Christian chipped away and got their deficit down to ten points (35-25) with 5:46 left until halftime. However, Dixie State finished the frame on a 14-4 scoring spurt to regain all the game's momentum.

Neither team came out of halftime shooting particular well as the Cougars made three of their first 12 field goal attempts while Dixie State went 5-for-15 from the floor. The home team's edge hit 60-37 with just over 10 minutes left in the contest.

Dixie State continued to pull away, and put the game out of reach, as they held the Cougars without a field goal for a six-plus minute stretch during the middle of the stanza.

COUGAR LEADERS: Stefan Hackethal got into double figures with a 13-point effort in 25 minutes. He also took team high rebound honors with four. Collin Huun (10 points) and Jeremiah Hanson (9) each hit three shots from behind the arc.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

- Justin Engesser's streak of playing 112 consecutive minutes came to an end during the second half. It is the first time since the Colorado Mesa game on Friday, Feb. 15 he sat on the bench.
- Dixie State held a 58-22 rebounding advantage as they scored 29 second chance points
- Colorado Christian hit 11 three-pointers and nine shots from inside the arc

UP NEXT: The Cougars conclude their campaign with a Friday evening contest at Regis. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
