GOLDEN, CO – Looking to pull an upset inside Lockridge Arena for the second straight season, the Colorado Christian volleyball squad couldn't find that same formula.
To start RMAC play, the Cougars fell to Colorado School of Mines in three sets as the Orediggers posted a 25-23, 25-17, 25-19 on Friday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Despite falling behind 10-5 in the early stage of the opening set, the Cougars scored five unanswered points to tie the stanza at 10-10. Neither team held more than a one-point lead until the home team took a 22-20 edge and Colorado Christian called a timeout. The Orediggers converted on their second game point to take the early lead.
The early moments of the second set unfolded similarly as the teams were tied at 11-11. However, Colorado School of Mines began to pull away. They went on a 10-2 scoring spurt to take control of the frame and the contest.
The third set was similar and again, for the third straight set, the score in the initial stages was 10-9 Orediggers. The home team proceeded to scored eight of the next 11 points to get the momentum. Colorado Christian got as close as four points but couldn't overcome their deficit against the preseason RMAC favorites.
COUGAR LEADERS: Jacey Johnson had a team high seven kills while Ashley Dyre and Jasa Scheierman each had six. Maddie Burns notched 25 assists while Mariela Gonzalez registered a 10-dig evening.
