LAKEWOOD, CO – In recent history the conference home opener has been good to the Colorado Christian women's volleyball squad. Unfortunately Tuesday evening reserved that trend.
The 12th ranked Regis Rangers continued their strong start to the season with a 3-0 (34-32, 25-16, 25-15) victory against the Cougars.
HOW IT HAPPENED: After the opening set it looked like the Cougars would give the nationally ranked Rangers a run at an upset. The teams went toe-to-toe through the opening frame as there were 16 ties and nine lead changes during the stanza. Colorado Christian had four set points but couldn't convert before Regis won the stanza on their fourth opportunity.
During the second and third sets the Rangers tallied 32 kills on 56 attack attempts with just four errors. The visitors hit a combined .500 in those two stanzas. Aside from leading briefly in the third set, the home team did not have the advantage on the scoreboard in the final two sets.
COUGAR LEADERS: Ashley Drye and Kristy Dick each had a team best eight kills while Veronica Nederend registered a seven-kill evening. The transfer senior had hitting percentage of .429.
In her first collegiate start Jincey Nystedt had 33 assists and eight digs from her setter spot. Mariela Gonzalez continued to lead the back row effort as she had a 19-dig performance.
