Colorado Mesa Gets Late Game Winner

LAKEWOOD, CO – Looking to end Colorado Mesa's five-game unbeaten streak the Cougars efforts fell just short.

A late goal lifted the Mavericks to a 2-1 win over the Colorado Christian men's soccer team on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Colorado Mesa got on the scoreboard first in the 14th minute. Pressing into their offensive third, a centering pass from the left side was inadvertently kicked into the goal by a Colorado Christian defender who was trying to clear the ball.

The visitors continued to press but a stingy Cougars defense kept them in the contest. In the 70th minute the Colorado Christian got some good fortune. Liam Lakey scored his first goal of the season when a loose ball in the box was corralled by Ulises Garcia then Lakey deposited the ball in the back of the cage.

Colorado Mesa got the game winner from Tristan Widic in the 79th minute. Aaron Martinez played a nice through ball up the middle to Widic who scored from 12 yards out.
