Late Goals Lift Lubbock Christian

LUBBOCK, TX – Unfortunately for the second straight contest a pair of late goals were the difference as the Colorado Christian men's soccer battled in a road contest in the Lone Star State.

Lubbock Christian broke open a tie game with a pair of goals in the closing minutes to secure a 3-1 victory against the Cougars on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Despite holding a 10-3 overall shot advantage Lubbock Christian couldn't break pass Cougar goalie Max Collingwood (four saves) as the teams went into the locker room scoreless after 45 minutes.

In the 61st minute the home team scored the first goal on a shot inside the box by Momanned Busaidy. The resilient Cougars responded nine minutes later when Zach Mercier scored his second goal of the season to knot the contest at 1-1.

Tariq Bakkali scored the game's go-ahead goal in the 81st minute when he teamed up with Fernando Flores and Jonathan Woods for the net-finder. Bakkali scored exactly 60 second later to all but wrap-up the contest with his second goal of the afternoon.

UP NEXT: The Cougars host Chaminade on Friday, Sept. 13 at 1 p.m. in their home opener. The game will be played at Lakewood Memorial Stadium.
