LAKEWOOD, CO – The Colorado Mesa shooters made themselves right at home on Saturday evening.
Playing their third game of the season at the CCU Event Center as a visitor, the Mavericks were comfortable shooting the ball as they registered a 90-70 victory against Colorado Christian.
Earlier this season the Mavericks played a pair of games at the D2 Conference Challenge hosted by Colorado Christian.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Mavericks hit at least 60 percent of their field goal attempts for the fourth time this season to propel them to the nearly wire-to-wire win. Overall they went 35-for-54 from the floor (64.8 percent). They only missed eight of their 28 attempts in the second half.
In addition, Colorado Mesa hit 14 of their 22 shots from behind the arc. Kolton Peterson came off the bench to hit eight of his 10 attempts in just over 25 minutes of court time.
They held a double figure lead for a majority of the evening as the visitors from Grand Junction led the game for just over 39 minutes.
Despite the strong shooting from their opponents the Cougars pulled within six points just before the midway point of the second half but ultimately the hot shooting effort by the Mavericks was too much to overcome.
COUGAR LEADERS: Jake Hornick scored a team high 17 points on a 7-for-13 shooting effort. Spencer Hoffman tallied another double figure performance by scoring 15. Justin Engesser rounded out the double digit scorers for Colorado Christian with 10.
