Strong Shooting Paces Cougars to Win

LAKEWOOD, CO – The Cougars had a little extra pep in their jump shot on Friday evening. While the temps were chilly outside, Colorado Christian had no issue putting together a hot shooting effort.

The Cougars hoovered around the 60 percent shooting mark all evening as they recorded a 92-87 win against Fort Lewis on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Cougars offense was clicking well in the early minutes as they hit 11 of their first 15 shot in taking a 28-11 lead with just under 12 minutes left in the stanza. During that stretch the Cougars hit four three-pointers, three of which came from Collin Huun.

Fort Lewis methodically chipped away at the deficit despite the Cougars shooting 60 percent from the floor in the half. Trailing 39-25, the Skyhawks finished the stanza by scoring 15 of the next 21 points. Colorado Christian held a 45-40 edge at intermission.

The home team's shooting prowess continued to be on strong display in the second half. Shooting better than 60 percent in the stanza, Colorado Christian built their lead to 78-65 after Jake Hornick converted a lay-up with 7:45 remaining. Fort Lewis had one more scoring spurt in them as they pulled within 86-83 on a pair Brendan Boatwright foul shots. It was as close as they would get down the stretch.

Fort Lewis had three empty possessions as the Cougars upped their lead to 90-83. Over the last two minutes the Cougars went 3-for-4 from the charity stripe as well as making two of their three field attempts down the stretch.
