Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Stephen Hinkel

An Undefeated Weekend

LAKEWOOD, CO – A second evening of success.

The Colorado Christian men's basketball squad executed well on both ends of the floor for the second time in a 24-hour period as they notched an 86-73 victory against Adams State.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The early moments of the game did not start well for the Cougars as they were staring at an early seven-point deficit. No matter, as the Cougars outscored Adams State over the remaining 15-plus minutes as Colorado Christian took a 37-33 lead into the locker room.

In the second frame the Cougars kept the offense pressure on the visitors as they built a 20-point lead in the final stanza. Once Colorado Christian built a 10-point lead with just over 15 minutes remaining, they continued to shoot effective and play solid defense. Adams State never got closer than nine points during those final 15 minutes.

COUGAR LEADERS: Three players found their way into the double-double category. Spencer Hoffman had a 26-point, 12-rebound effort while Aidan Cantwell (10 points, 10 rebounds) and Justin Engesser (12 points, 10 assists) found their way in the productive stats category.

That trio weren't the only players to significantly contribute as Jake Hornick scored 13 points while Luke Martin grabbed 10 rebounds and scored eight points.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

  • Colorado Christian went 16-for-29 (55.2 percent) from the floor in the second half
  • The Cougars held Adams State to a 39.4 percent shooting effort
  • The home team held a plus-18 rebounding edge

QUOTEABLE: "Since the start of the New Year, it is the first time our defense kept both our weekend opponents to a low shooting effort and, on top of that, we executed well on offense," said head coach Jeff Hironaka. "Tonight we dominated the boards and then yesterday our bench was pivotal in helping propel us. We will enjoy this for a little bit then move on to our road trip."

UP NEXT: The Cougars will look to continue their momentum with a road game on Friday, Feb. 14 against Colorado Mesa.
