EDMOND, OK – Weekend Two of the Edmond Regional Festival is underway and Colorado Christian started the weekend off against a familiar foe. Game One was against #7 ranked Central Oklahoma. The Cougars lost last weekend to them by a score of seven to one. Game Two of the day was against Northeastern State University.
COLORADO CHRISTIAN 9 – CENTRAL OKLAHOMA 6 11 INNINGS
In a marathon of a game, the Cougars took a page from the cross country team in endurance to outlast Central Oklahoma. Stephanie Day got the Cougars out in front early, homering in the first inning to left field, scoring herself and Sami Edwards.
After Central Oklahoma scored in the bottom of the inning Edwards was back in the middle of the action, with a RBI single in the second. Central Oklahoma took the lead in the third with a home run and a two RBI triple.
Caitlyn McCarthy tied the game in the fifth with a single up the middle to score Day. The teams remained tied until the tenth inning, with Samaria Roope and Sydney Reamer both driving in runs to take a two score lead. Central Oklahoma responded in the bottom of the inning, with a double and a sac fly to tie the game once again.
The Cougars were ready to strike back with Kiah Parker, Kacie Burger, and Edwards all driving in runs in the top of the eleventh to secure the 9-6 win for Colorado Christian.
Edwards, Day and Reamer all had two hits, and Reamer recorded the win for the Cougars.
NORTHEASTERN STATE 8 – COLORADO CHRISTIAN 0 5 INNINGS
After the grind of the first game the Cougars came out without their usual energy in game two.
Northeastern State did all the damage in three innings, scoring three runs in the second and the fourth and two more runs in the fifth to seal the game as a mercy rule.
Piper Lujan had the only hit for the Cougars as the Northeastern State pitching of Gail Young perplexed the team for the entire game. Samaria Roope and Makena Martin pitched for the Cougars.
