Softball Finishes Weekend with Perfect Record

DENVER, CO – Day Two of the New Mexico Highlands and MSU Denver pod series kicked off with Colorado Christian playing N.M. Highlands for the second time.

COLORADO CHRISTIAN 6 – N.M. HIGHLANDS 3

The Cougars started the game off with a RBI groundout by Samaria Roope. The Cowgirls scored in the top of the second with a solo home run to tie the game. Caitlyn McCarthy brought home Kacie Burger in the second inning with a sac fly.

The Cougars scored in the third as well, as Sydney Reamer tripled into center field, bringing Roope and Stephanie Day home to score. Sami Edwards hit a sac fly in the fourth bringing Jamie Romero home and increasing the lead to four.

Makena Martin homered in the sixth inning down the left field line and gave the Cougars real breathing room as the Cowgirls could not tie the game with one swing.

N.M. Highlands started the comeback in the top of the seventh, with a single to center field and a fielder's choice to bring home two runs and make the game a three run game. The Cougars finished the game after a walk to secure the win 6-3.

Martin had two hits and a home run. Reamer drove in two runs. Samaria Roope pitched 6.1 innings, with four strikeouts and no walks.  

COLORADO CHRISTIAN 11 – MSU DENVER 7

Colorado Christian got back on the field against MSU Denver Saturday afternoon. A back and forth game, the Cougars took control in the bottom of third inning.

MSU Denver started the game off with a bang, hitting a solo home run in the first inning. The Cougars responded in the second inning, as Jamie Romero hit a three run home run to left field.

The third inning was the biggest scoring inning of the game, MSU Denver started the inning with a double down the left field line, followed up with a single up the middle to tie the game. Jamie Romero continued to lead the team with a two RBI single through the right side of the infield. Caitlyn McCarthy singled up the middle to bring home two more runs for the Cougars. Sami Edwards singled up the middle to bring home the fifth run of the inning. Samaria Roope finished the scoring with a single to left field. Scoring two more runs and putting the Cougars up by seven runs.

Kiah Parker got in on the action in the fourth inning with a home run to left field. MSU Denver responded with a double in the fifth inning. A three run home run for the Roadrunners in the seventh inning made it a four run game but was as close as MSU Denver got. The Cougars won 11-7.

Jamie Romero had two hits, five RBI, and a home run, Sami Edwards and Kacie Burger both had two hits. Sydney Reamer pitched four innings and recorded the win.
