Offense Rolls as Cougars Win Both

ALAMOSA, CO – On their first conference road trip of the season, Colorado Christian traveled down to Alamosa to take on Adams State.

COLORADO CHRISTIAN 11 – ADAMS STATE 3

A close first half of the game saw the Cougars and Grizzlies tied at one apiece after four innings. The Cougars scored four in the fifth, starting with a Kacie Burger solo home run to left center field. Caitlyn McCarthy followed a few batters later with a double to left center bringing Stephanie Day home to score. Makena Martin singled and Piper Lujan reached on a fielder's choice, both batters bringing home a run.

Day homered in the sixth inning, increasing the score to 7-1. Kacie Burger and Sami Edwards both singled in the seventh to score two more runs and the last frame was capped off by two more Cougars scoring on an error by the third baseman.

After allowing two runs in the bottom of the seventh the Cougars shut down any comeback attempt to secure the 11-3 win.

Burger and Day both had three hits, both with a home run, and Day also recorded a double. Samaria Roope had two RBI on two hits. In the circle, Jennifer Romero threw 6.1 innings with five strikeouts and only allowing two runs to get her seventh win of the season.

COLORADO CHRISTIAN 15 – ADAMS STATE 1

Continuing off the momentum built in the last game, Colorado Christian started the scoring the second, with a Makena Martin sac fly. The Grizzlies tied the game in the bottom of the inning before the Cougars took over. Kacie Burger and Stephanie Day both hit two run home runs. Makena Martin tripled to right, and Piper Lujan reached on an error. Already in the third it was 8-1 Cougars.

The Cougars scored seven more runs in the fourth, Martin got the scoring started with a double to left center to score the first two runs. Lujan doubled to right field bringing home two more Cougars. Jamie Romero scored Lujan with a single to right field, and Burger finished the scoring with her third home run of the day.

In a game that only lasted five innings, Sidney Rawlings only allowed one run, and struck out two.

Burger had two hits and four RBI, with both hits being home runs, Day also had two hits with a home run. Makena Martin brought in five runs off a double and a triple.
