ALAMOSA, CO – In a record setting day, Colorado Christian won both games to complete the sweep of Adams State.
COLORADO CHRISTIAN 22 – ADAMS STATE 5
22 runs is the most ever scored by Colorado Christian, beating the previous record of 21 against Oklahoma Panhandle in 2014.
Samaria Roope started the scoring with a double to left center, Caitlyn McCarthy followed that with a double bringing in two more Cougars. Sandwiched between two Grizzly errors that brought runs home, Makena Martin singled to left field. At the end of their half of the inning the Cougars had scored seven runs.
The Grizzlies scored three runs of their own in the bottom of the first, and followed that up with two more in the bottom of the second before the bats of the Cougars really took off.
Kacie Burger started the scoring in the third with a two run home run to left field, Sydney Reamer really put the game away with a grand slam to center field. In the fourth inning Stephanie Day singled to right field to score two more runs, Roope got back into the action with a single to left field. McCarthy brought in her third run of the game with a single to left field. Kiah Parker continued the scoring with a three run home run to left field. Piper Lujan and Sami Edwards finished the scoring with singles of their own to bring the score to a final of 22-5.
Reamer had five RBI on one hit and a walk, Burger, Parker, and Reamer all had home runs. The Cougars only struck out once as a team. Jennifer Romero recorded the win, and Makena Martin had three strikeouts in relief.
COLORADO CHRISTIAN 10 – ADAMS STATE 8
In a much more contested contest, the Cougars battled out for the final win of the series with a two run seventh to take the lead.
After a Stephanie Day RBI single to right field in the first, Adams State scored six runs in the bottom of the inning to take control early.
Colorado Christian responded quickly with six runs in the top of the third inning. Sami Edwards singled to center field, after a coming in on a wild pitch, Samaria Roope singled to center field to bring two more Cougars home. Makena Martin then singled to center field to bring in the fifth run of the inning and Piper Lujan rounded out the inning with a RBI single to left field.
After two Grizzly home runs the Cougars found themselves back down, but Martin tied the game in the fifth with a single up the middle and Sydney Reamer and Lujan gave the Cougars the lead in the seventh with two RBI singles.
Lujan had three hits and two RBI, Caitlyn McCarthy had two doubles. Jennifer Romero recorded her second win of the day, pitching four innings in relief.
