Cougars Heating Up with 2-0 Start to Weekend

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – While Lakewood is buried in snow, Colorado Christian softball is off to a hot start in the Edmond Regional Festival.

An 11-1 win over East Central Oklahoma to start the day was quickly followed up with a big time win against #15 Cameron University by a final of 6-4.

COLORADO CHRISTIAN 11, EAST CENTRAL OKLAHOMA 1

A quick start to the game fueled the win for the Cougars, scoring six runs in the first which was highlighted by a Makena Martin grand slam.

Martin drove in her fifth run of the day in the third with a sac fly which put the Cougars up by seven.

Jamie Romero drove in two in the fourth inning, with a single to left center to bring the score to 11-1.

Jennifer Romero pitched a gem, allowing only one hit in four innings pitched and striking out four East Central hitters.

The offensive outburst and shutdown pitching secured the 11-1 win for the Cougars in only five innings.

COLORADO CHRISTIAN 6, #15 CAMERON 4

A much more back and forth affair for the Cougars, clutch hitting and timely pitching propelled the Cougars to their second win of the day.

Picking up right where they left off, Colorado Christian scored twice in the opening frame, with a Samaria Roope double to right field, and a Caitlyn McCarthy single to center helping the Cougars build an early lead over Cameron.

Cameron struck back in the second, scoring three runs of their own off a single, a fielder's choice and a sac fly in quick succession to take the lead.

The Cougars bounced back in the third as Roope hit her second double of the game to score Sami Edwards for the second time. McCarthy joined in with a double of her own to left field, bringing in Roope, and the third straight double by Sydney Reamer brought home McCarthy. After an out Makena Martin continued her great day with another double bringing home Reamer.

Cameron brought one more run across in the fourth but it was not enough as the Cougars held strong in the final innings to guarantee the 6-4 win.

Roope and McCarthy both had two RBI for the team, and Reamer excelled in the circle pitching 2.2 innings in relief and striking out three.
