OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – A high scoring Cougars offense got back to their winning ways against Pittsburgh State this morning.
Scoring in every inning except for the second the Cougars rolled over the Gorillas by a score of 9-1 in only five innings.
Colorado Christian got off to a great start with the team scoring three runs in the first inning. Samaria Roope continued her excellent weekend, doubling to right center, scoring Stephanie Day and Sami Edwards. Caitlyn McCarthy followed that up with triple to right field, scoring Roope.
After a scoreless second inning, Makena Martin got the Cougars offense started again with a single to center field, scoring Roope and putting the Cougars up by four runs and in control.
The Gorillas scored in the fourth inning to bring the game within three. Stephanie Day hit her first home run of the season in the bottom of the fourth, a two run shot to right field.
Makena Martin hit her second home run of the season in the fifth inning, a two run home run bringing home Sydney Reamer for the Cougars eighth run of the game. Kiah Parker also homered in the inning as well, her first collegiate home run into left field. The ninth run of the game was also enough to enforce the mercy rule.
Martin had three hits on the day and also drove in three runs. Day and Roope both drove in two runs and scored two runs. Jennifer Romero pitched a gem, throwing five innings with six strikeouts, and only allowing three hits.
