LAKEWOOD, CO – History in the making for Colorado Christian, Stephanie Day was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-American softball team. This marks the first time in Colorado Christian history that a student athlete has been honored as an Academic All American in any sport.
The second-team honoree graduated from Colorado Christian in the spring of 2020 with an undergraduate degree in Business Administration and a 3.55 GPA. The 2020 Academic All American softball team, selected by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. There were 33 total student athletes selected to the Academic All American squad with 11 on each of the first-, second-, and third-team.
For her career, Day has a .403 batting average, 231 hits, 40 doubles, 36 homeruns, 178 runs batted in, and 393 total bases. All of these stats are top three numbers in Colorado Christian history. Day has also been a two-time All American previously, in both 2019 and 2018.
Head Coach Larry Hays says about Day, "This is something we are used to every year, with Stephanie being honored by the rest of the nation as one of the best. She is obviously one of the best hitters in the nation, but to our team she is so much more than that. She is a great leader for both her team and the student body, an All American on and off the field."
Day is one of three RMAC softball players to be honored by CoSIDA. Clara Larson (Colorado School of Mines) and Hailey Hinson (Colorado Mesa) also received the honor.
Despite the cancellation of spring competition during COVID-19, CoSIDA continued its sponsorship of the Academic All-America awards program. Student-athletes were selected based on career statistics.
