Looking to solidify their chances for a berth into the RMAC postseason, Colorado Christian came out on the short end of a 2-0 decision against UCCS on Thursday evening.
The setback moves the Cougars record to 10-3 overall and 4-3 (12 points) in RMAC games. There are three games left in the regular season and there are six teams fighting for the final four spots in the league's postseason event.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Despite a scoreless first half, the Cougars came within inches of the lead. With just under three minutes left until the break, Liam Lakey hit a header that bounced off the cross bar then was cleared off the line by the UCCS defense.
In those opening 45 minutes, the home team held a 10-5 edge for overall shots. Michel Pinoncely made a pair of saves to keep the game scoreless.
The deadlock was broken in the 76th minute. Alex Andersson converted a perfectly struck free kick from 30 yards out that found the high left side of the goal. It was the Mountain Lions 20th shot of the game.
UCCS sealed the victory with their second goal in the 86th minute. Lucka Cecic took a feed from Adam Baldwin and his shot went into the high right side of the net.
